Tsunami Relief Program

The unimaginable catastrophe that hit Southeast Asia on boxing day 2004, sent shock waves throughout the world. In the days, weeks and months following the tsunami, thousands of people rushed to the devastated areas in search of some way of helping in a seemingly helpless situation. As part of this relief effort, in early 2005, Souls provided emergency aid to areas in both Thailand and Sri Lanka. Throughout 2005, Dean made several visits to devastated areas in Thailand, while Dave, the foundations sole donor continued to support projects there. The need was endless, yet rather then becoming overwhelmed; Souls provided aid on a small-scale basis, changing the lives and fates of a few people who had lost everything.

The aftermath: January- February 2005 - Phuket, Thailand

Souls contributed emergency funding to help re-build the Kamala Elementary School, after it was struck by the Tsunami. As part of this program, we also donated funds to 5 students from the school who lost one or both parents.

As hundreds of thousands of people found themselves without a home, Souls donated the funds to help re-build ten small houses for fisherman and their families.

Six months on: June 2005 - Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, being one of the worst hit areas in the region became the next focus for Souls who transformed the fate of one family by donating funds to help re-build their home.

The forgotten survivors: November 2005 - Sri Lanka

Eleven months after the devastating wave, when much of the world had switched over to the next disaster, thousands of surviving victims had lost hope as they struggled through each day with still no access to resources to re-build their lives. Souls made contact with Sri Yasodara orphanage and donated funds to their food program at a time when resources were at their most stretched.

Souls also assisted a local Sri Lankan NGO, photographing and conducting interviews with families who continued to live in tents to raise awareness and remind the world of the long road to recovery that still lay ahead.
